SOFTBALL 🥎

The early regular season standings lead belongs to both Dulaney and Pikesville, both holding 3-0 records. Three more teams also remain undefeated, but Towson’s 4-1 record puts them closest to the top.

Last week’s best game happened early, as on Monday, Dundalk traveled to Sparrows Point to face the Pointers in, what became, a high-scoring back-and-forth affair. In the end, the Pointers earned their second win of the season, winning 14-13. Since then, Sparrows took down Carver but fell against Eastern Tech, but the team has scored double-digit runs in each of their four games this season.

The highest scoring game of last week went down on Wednesday between Owings Mills and New Town. The Golden Eagles picked up their first win of the year in a game that saw 38 total runs scored, with Owings Mills beating the Titans 26-12. Parkville wins the title of the most runs scored in a game last week, as they plated 28 in a home rout against Overlea.

Over the five days of games, 16 games saw at least one team cross the 15 run mark, including eight games on Wednesday, where Owings Mills’ 26, Pikesville’s 25, and both Patapsco and Kenwood putting 22 on the board led the county. With spring break kicking off this Wednesday, only a few games remain before limited action over the time off.

BOYS LACROSSE🥍

New Town, Western Tech, Parkville, Chesapeake, and Eastern Tech sit atop Baltimore County boys lacrosse after one week, with each of the five teams holding 2-0 records. The Mavericks could face a challenge on Monday, March 30, as they are scheduled to travel to take on the Concordia Prep Saints from the MIAA.

The first full week of the regular season featured both high scoring shootouts and huge wins for certain teams. The closest game of the week was won by the Hereford Bulls early last week. On Tuesday, the Bulls traveled to Carroll County to face the Westminster Owls, where they won 11-10. Hereford’s other game of the week saw them travel back to Carroll County to take on Gerstell Academy, where they won another one-goal game 10-9. The Bulls will play their final out-of-county game on Monday, when they’ll host the Manchester Valley Mavericks.

Franklin put the most points on the board of any team last week in their game Friday against Loch Raven. In their first game of the season, the Indians found the back of the net 18 times, defeating the Raiders by 14 goals. Pikesville takes the title of the biggest win of the season, as they took down Milford Mill on Thursday 17-0.

BASEBALL

After the first full week of the regular season, the Hereford Bulls have a firm hold on the top spot in the county, sitting at 4-0. They are closely followed by Towson and Dulaney who both have 3-1 record, while five other teams are undefeated with either one or two wins.

11 games last week were decided by double digit runs, with the largest deficit of the week taking place on Wednesday. Franklin hosted the Woodlawn Warriors and captured a 23-2 home victory, their second win of the season. The highest scoring game of the week was also on Wednesday, when Hereford traveled to Perry Hall to take on the Gators. 33 combined runs were scored in the game, but the Bulls earned the win, 21-12.

The upset of the week belongs to the Pikesville Panthers when they hosted Dulaney. Sophomore Ethan Holaday started the game on the mound, throwing 104 pitches in 5.2 innings while allowing just one earned run, four hits, and six strikeouts. Junior Nate Cherry closed out the game, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing three baserunners to earn the save, as the Panthers took down the Lions 5-3.

Thursday marks the beginning of Baltimore County’s week and a half off, but there will be no shortage of spring break action. Stay tuned next week for updates from the break from the regular season.

GIRLS LACROSSE🥍

Out of 24 total schools in the county, 21 have played at least one game this season, and of those 21, just six currently hold winning records. Western Tech and Loch Raven are tied for the top spot, with both having 2-0 records. Dulaney and Eastern Tech also have two wins, but the two earned a loss, Dulaney in their season opener against Mercy and Eastern Tech on Monday on the road against rival Perry Hall.

Perry Hall’s win over Eastern Tech served as the closest game of the week, with the Gators taking the win 11-10. Sparrows Point takes the title of the most points scored in any game last week. On Tuesday, they traveled to Dundalk to take on the Owls. In that matchup, the Pointers found the net 23 times, winning the game by 20-points, also the largest victory margin of the week.

The game with the most total points went down on Wednesday, when the Franklin Indians traveled south to face the Pikesville Panthers. The purple and white put eight points on the scoreboard, but it was nowhere near enough to compete with Franklin’s 19, totaling 27 goals by the time the final whistle blew.
