BASEBALL ⚾
Last week, two of Baltimore County’s top baseball teams, Hereford and Dulaney, faced off in what could go down as the game with the comeback of the year. Click this link or scroll down for a full recap from Monday’s match!

Baltimore County’s top two teams faced off in an early season showdown, as the Hereford Bulls traveled down York Road to face rival Dulaney. Coming into the went on the road contest, the Lions took down the Western Tech Wolverines 11-2 while the Bulls traveled to face the Catonsville Comets, earning a 15-3 run rule victory in five innings.
Both squads produced baserunners in the first, but Chesapeake College commit Merrick Gardner put Hereford on the board first with a two-run homer off UMBC bound pitcher Drew Ranck.
The game’s next runs also favored the Bulls. In the fourth inning, Gardner made it to second on an error before he was driven in on another Dulaney fielding error on a bunt by Cameron Shinavar. Just two pitches later, Shinavar crossed the plate after an error on the mound, giving the Bulls a 4-0 lead after four.
The Lions went three up and three down in the bottom of the fourth, and in the top of the fifth, had Hereford to two outs with the bases empty. This would not hold though, as Harford Community College commit Kreis Metz doubled on the first pitch he saw, and after reaching third on a Lions’ error, junior Jameson Greenwood singled on a pop fly, driving in his team’s fifth run of the game.
Zach McElroy’s squad would not be discouraged, as they took the zero off the scoreboard in their half of the fifth. Monmouth commit Matthew Rich ripped a two-out single into center field, and after Drew Ranck reached on a walk, Chatham University commit Carter Frick laced a double into center, clearing the bases and bringing Dulaney within three runs.
The Bulls managed to regrow the lead in the sixth, as Gardner reached on a six pitch leadoff walk, and after stealing two bases, put another run on the board after a balk by Dulaney reliever Dylan Hebbel. Down four runs heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dulaney squad lit a spark.
Three Dulaney hitters reached base on a walk, single, and hit by pitch with two outs on the board. In the sixth at-bat of the inning, Matthew Rich was walked, but not before Misericordia University commit Dylan Townsend reached home on a passed ball. In the next at bat, two more Lions came across the plate before Charlie Smith gave up his second consecutive walk.
With runners on the corners, Frick hit a ball on the ground, but a Kreis Matz error allowed him to reach, tying the game at six. Still with two outs, James Bowman gave the Lions their first lead of the game on a pop fly single, scoring a pair of runs. In his second plate appearance of the inning, Townsend gave the sixth pitch a ride, smacking a line drive double, scoring the seventh and last Dulaney run of the inning.
Hereford’s leadoff hitter would reach in the top of the seventh, but three straight outs followed, ending the game and giving Dulaney a 9-6 comeback victory. Dylan Hebbel earned the win for the Lions, throwing 38 pitches in two innings while picking up three strikeouts. Charlie Smith was charged with the loss, throwing 44 pitches in his only inning, seven runs on three hits while allowing two walks and picking up two strikeouts.

GIRLS LACROSSE🥍
Loch Raven currently leads the BCPS standings having won their only two games, both against in-county opponents. Dulaney holds a 4-1 overall record but they faced four teams from out of the county keeping them off the top of the conference standings.
Pikesville girls’ lacrosse had a very strong week, outscoring Lansdowne and New Town by a combined 39-10 while picking up both the most goals scored in a game (20 on Monday v. Lansdowne) and the biggest win margin (17 on Tuesday v. New Town).
Offensive firepower remained a significant talking point from this past week, as in each of the ten games played before break began on Wednesday afternoon, each of the ten games a BCPS girls lacrosse team competed in saw at least one team surpass double-digit points. Per the County Sports Zone schedule, no games are scheduled for this coming week. If your team is playing over spring break, please let us know by messaging the email below!

BOYS LACROSSE🥍
Parkville and Pikesville enter the week tied at the top of the conference standings, but Eastern Tech currently sits half a game back while remaining undefeated in BCPS play. The Mavericks took the title of the biggest win deficit last week with their 18-0 win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Tuesday.
Last week saw many more closer contests compared to the first full week of the season, but none were closer than Tuesday’s showdown between Loch Raven and Patapsco that saw the Raiders escape with a 9-8 win.
Hereford continued to dominate both in and out of conference play. They took care of business at home against Manchester Valley 15-10 on Monday ending their streak of Carroll County opponents. The Bulls followed that win with a 10-6 victory over Sparrows Point just a day later, but the Pointers bounced back Wednesday defeating Patapsco 17-5.
Per the County Sports Zone schedule, just one game is scheduled for this coming week. If your team is playing over spring break, please let us know by messaging the email below!
